Sir Ken Robinson
Ken Robinson presented a topic that has been debated by many people in different ways.Chilean Education hasn´t changed its fundamental structures for many years. We are still teaching our students in the same way we were taught many years ago. Our talents at that time were not taken into account because we were supposed to go only to university. Talents are not taken into account now either, because we tend to think that all of us need to know Language, Maths and sciences. Fortunately, many students today are developing their skills more than we did in the past. If they like singing, they sing, if they like arts they paint and if they like the circus they go to some parks and practise some difficult exercises. Most talented Chilean people are able to become well-known only because they were creative and they weren´t concerned if they commited mistakes or not.

I think that we need to change education and begin modifying our lessona dn our programmes according to the need of our students. There are always some contents that the students must learn. But there are many things that we could change and accomodate to the needs of our students. That is the only way to achieve a really meaninful learning and to improve education.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Johanna when she says that nowadays there are more oppotunities to leave behind the "traditional" way of seeing life. I was thinking about people who doesn´t have so much chances and resources and with little things they make changes. In this case, it is where imagination comes up and, in my opinion, it is more valuable.
ReplyDeleteThe "problem" is that in Chile there are few opportunities to be creative and earn money for living. I think it's just beginning to appear some young people who have created their own business to fulfill "special needs" in our society, but I believe it's hard they really must learn from their mistakes and try again and again. What made them to be that way? The education they received at school? Their families? It should be interesting to know.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Carmen, there aren´t many opportunities to be creative and make a living for that, but still there have been some that finally took the step and made it. Things have changed and as Johanna said people are following their dreams if they like singing and are good at it thay have become a singer. Chilean society is becoming slowly more openminded and is not expecting that everyone becomes a lawyer or ingenier.
